Sunset at the Luneta showing the Band Stand (circa 1900).
Situated on the Luneta, about a mile south of the walled city (Intramuros), and distant from Manila bay about 100 feet, was a large bandstand where a military band frequently played after sunset.
Philclassic Archive: The Bandstand was the place in the Luneta where the Queen of Philippine Sarswela and the first Filipino recording artist, Maria Carpena would sing Philippine songs to the delight of thousands of listeners.
Actually there were two Bandstands at the Luneta. Both were removed to give way to the new Rizal Monument as the center of people's attention at the Luneta.
