President Duterte wants an end to corruption and illegal drugs. He wants to alleviate poverty. He wants an end to insurgency and separatism. He wants to eradicate terrorism. All are inter-connected. What's wrong with these ends?
Those who oppose him have not provided viable alternative solutions. Leni Robredo suggested legalizing and decriminalizing the use of drugs. What kind of solution is that when shabu has already affected mentally and physically 3 to 4 million of our youth. Does she also propose to legalize the sale of the devil's drug called Flakka when it hits our streets? Edcel Lagman and Risa Hontiveros opposed martial law and blamed Duterte for Marawi. The upshot is they want Maute-affiliated ISIS terrorists who are also into illegal drugs to be left alone in Marawi. Hontiveros went further and praised Joma Sison as a hero whose NPAs are killing our soldiers and police. Quite frankly, are these solutions?
What did the LP and its allies do when they were in power? They turned a blind eye and allowed the problems to fester and grow. Why? Simply because they were enjoying a share of drug profits. They had sacrificed our youth to obtain funding from druglords to stay in office. Leila de Lima did nothing about the sale of drugs at the Bilibid when she was DOJ secretary except sing and dance with them in their luxurious prison quarters that amazed foreign correspondents.
Now, talk of corruption. Noynoy Aquino and the LP castigated Ferdinand Marcos for corruption. Granted Marcos was not perfect but was the government of Noynoy Aquino any better? What about the DAP they distributed with largesse to senators. 245-million to Antonio Trillanes? What about the other anomalies in MRT, the Yolanda housing, the Malampaya fund?
If Noynoy Aquino had been such a hotshot president, do you think the people would have voted for Duterte? The reason why Duterte won is because the people were fed up and wanted change.
Now that Duterte won, these self-righteous Opposition and their followers in social media want to discredit and topple Duterte who now has the vast majority of Filipinos behind him according to the latest opinion polls. Isn't that the tyranny of the minority? By what right? By no right because when they were in power they practiced a sham form of democracy using the mainstream media which their surrogates controlled and by manipulating electoral votes.
Duterte's supporters are clamoring for extraordinary powers to be given to him. The LP and their supporters are protesting. Did they protest when Cory was given similar powers? They call Duterte a dictator. Did they call Cory a dictator when she had rev powers?
The LP is full of empty talk. It is full of hypocrisy. The plain truth is it fears change because it would clip the powers of the oligarchy which the Cojuangcos-Aquinos form a part. That is the reason why the Opposition won't stop until it gets Duterte out. Their members like the old system because they enriched themselves by it.
