A CLEVER STRATEGIST AND TACTICIAN

As I wrote a long time ago after the May 2016 elections, Rodrigo Duterte is a clever strategist and tactician.

1. Never telegraph your real punches in advance. Give your enemy veiled warnings without going into specifics.

2. What your enemy doesn't know makes him nervous. Not knowing where the next blow will come from makes him nervous. When he doesn't know, you have the tactical advantage.

3. Carry out feint movements intended to confuse the enemy. Such diversionary tactics give the enemy a false sense of where and what will hit him.

4. Sit back and wait for the initial enemy reaction. That will allow you to calibrate your next move.

5. Only tell publicly on a need-to-know basis. Never reveal specifics of your plan.

6. Keep the enemy guessing.
